10.04.07 K9 Teams from Four States Attend Cadaver Dog Training
Johnston, Iowa – Volunteer canine teams from four different states attended a cadaver dog training at Camp Dodge located in Johnston Iowa. Teams traveled from New York, Minnesota, Nebraska and different parts of Iowa for the two day intensive human remains detection specialized training. The training was hosted by the Paws of Life Foundation.
The seminar was taught by Paul Martin, Washington County Mississippi K9 Services. The curriculum included real world search scenarios, training on decomposition and the recovery of human remains as well as building searches. Emphasis is placed on real world examples and providing handlers with knowledge they can use when they are in the field.
“Training of this nature is highly important for volunteer search dog handlers”, said Paul Martin. “Law enforcement relies on these volunteers and their dogs to solve cases, the more training they have the better.”
“This training has really been beneficial for both my dog and myself” states Stacy Shaver with K9 Gabriel. “It’s really helped push my training to the next level and given me a solid training plan for when I go home.”
The Paws of Life Foundation is a registered 501c3 non profit organization devoted to the training and education of search and rescue K9 handlers. Paws of Life also work with humane societies and animal shelters to home appropriate dogs in working dog homes. You can find more information at www.pawsoflife.org.
