Grace's Story
Grace was found in August of 2007 scavenging for food in a man's front yard, he loaded her up and too her to the Animal Rescue League of Iowa in Des Moines.
As a full grown lab, Grace weighed just over 20lbs, was covered in feces and her toenails were growing into the pads of her feet. She was so malnourished that she was immediately put into a foster home for care. For approximately three weeks, her new foster parent fed her a quarter cup of boiled chicken and vegetables every two hours because that is all her malnourished system could hold without her throwing up.
After three months of care and putting on about 25lbs, Grace was brought back to the ARL for evaluation and was adopted by Dennis at Midwest K9 and then placed with Paws of Life to become a search and rescue dog.

Here is a picture of Grace, and her new adoptive parent, as she starts her new adventure to become a disaster search dog with Florida Task Force 1 out of Miami Dade Fire Department. Paws of Life is extremely honored to have Grace go through our placement program. Grace epitomizes our philosophy that a dog someone else throws away can become the 'paws of life' for someone else.
