PoL Lady Stats:
Breed: Terrier mix/border collie/lab?
Lady is doing great! She learns very quickly and is eager to please and learn new things. Thank you for letting me adopt this wonderful dog! She is already mastering some obedience commands - sit and down, working on stay, aus (let go of the toy, or whatever you are holding). She also knows how to shake hands. She loves to play and tug. Her favorite game is tug. We tug an old beekeeping canvas glove, which is the thing we use for the find indication. She also has some other tug toys.
My son, 14, thinks she's a genius dog. He was over in the corner where we keep dry dog food in a 5 gallon plastic bucket with a lid on it. She saw him, took her bowl to him, then after he filled it and she ate, she took her bowl back to it's spot!
She's very smart and curious and I am challenged all the time to keep her busy so she does not get into things she's not supposed to. I have to keep her busy, playing with toys, wrestling, and training.
She's also good with other animals. We have a cat, which she now gets along with after a little conference with the claws, ha ha. Now they play together. We raise goats on our farm and she loves to go out and check the goats. She's very good with them also. She even adopted a couple of bottle babies we had in the house for a few days, looking after them and keeping them clean.
We are working on the find indication. He said that it was easier to teach the indication first and then the find. So, Lady's indication is to run to me and grab a long canvas glove hanging from my belt and carrying it back to the "victim." She seems to think that is a great game! We've been mixing it up to prevent boredom and increasing the distance that she has to go to get the glove from me and take me to the victim, and we've been adding a few obstacles so she is not in direct line of sight from me to the victim, either. she's doing great so far!
